Mission Packs

Take on the Socktober Challenge!

While your students tackle their Socktober goals, help them to understand the issues of social justice and mission they are helping to address.

Our comprehensive Mission Packs engage the heads, hearts and hands of students, empowering them to understand not only what they are doing to support communities in need but why they are doing it.

Your Road Map to the Mission Packs

To get the most out of Socktober, we recommend integrating activities and teachings from all six  Socktober Challenge Mission Packs into your  school’s mission journey this year. The modules  cater to a wide variety of curriculum areas,  including religion and mission, history, geography,  and of course, physical education.

Using all six Mission Packs may seem  overwhelming, so we’ve developed a Road Map this year to allow you choose your own adventure,  according to your specific context.

What's included in the packs?

Each Mission Pack includes a selection of activities and resources suitable for primary and secondary students to connect them with the theme of that module. In addition, our team has also embedded several components into the Mission Packs to draw together key curriculum areas.

Head, Heart, Hands

Join the Socktober program and empower your students to make a difference through the Head, Heart, Hands framework.

Head: Expand students' understanding of global issues by immersing them in the reality of children in developing countries using our rich resources and learning pathways.

Heart: Inspire love and compassion in students through 360 virtual reality experiences, first-hand storytelling, and formation activities that connect them with the people we support.

Hands: Encourage students to take action by praying, advocating, and providing financial support to children in need, using their hands to make a real impact.

Catholic Social Teaching

Each Mission Pack points to applicable Catholic Social Teaching that relate to the theme and the activities within. Socktober draws on Human Dignity, Solidarity, Common Good, Preferential Option for the Poor, Stewardship of Creation, and Subsidiarity among others.

Combinations of Catholic Social Teaching can be found in all Mission Packs, and teachers are invited to work with students to identify the links between them, the stories and activities of the pack, and the Sustainable Development Goals also included.

Sustainable Development Goals

Each Mission Pack contains links to applicable Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted by the UN in 2015 as an urgent global call to action for human development. They recognise that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests. This is the responsibility of all nations.

Sport at the Service of Humanity

Sport at the Service of Humanity, an initiative started by Pope Francis in 2015,  combines the emotion of faith and sport into a powerful force that can make a real difference to our world. It lies at the heart of the Socktober Challenge.

In an age where the focus seems increasingly to be on the final outcome rather than the journey, its six guiding principles are a reminder of what really matters in life:
Compassion. Respect. Love. Enlightenment. Balance. Joy.
