In recent years, however, Malawi has faced severe hardship. Devastating floods have destroyed homes, farmland, and entire communities, forcing thousands of families to flee. Migration into already crowded areas has placed overwhelming pressure on food supplies, schools, healthcare, and employment opportunities. For many families, daily life has become a constant struggle for survival.
One of the most urgent challenges today is food insecurity and access to education for displaced children.
Hi there, I’m Yamikani and this is my family
My father lost his arm during a crocodile attack, making it much harder for him to work and provide for us. Despite everything, he continues to do his best to support our family.
My journey
I travel 20 kilometres to attend school. Sometimes, I cannot go at all because I suffer from a disease hampering the left side of my body, which makes it painful and difficult to walk long distances. Even with these challenges, I love learning. I enjoy reading and playing soccer, and I dream of building a better future for my family.
By supporting this year's project
This means:
- I will no longer have to travel 20 kilometers each day.
- My health challenges will no longer prevent me from receiving an education.
- My siblings will also have consistent access to learning.
With the children safely attending school nearby, Yamikani's parents will have the freedom to seek employment opportunities and focus on farming without needing to stay home for childcare. This creates stability, income, and hope for the entire family.
With your involvement we can
ensure children like Yamikani receive consistent access to education.
provide hope to a community who faces severe hardship.
support displaced families rebuilding after devastating weather events.
