Tell your Socktober story!
Promoting Socktober around your school community is one of the most important ways to get everyone involved and maximising the difference your school can make for children in need. We've put together some resources to help you spread the word and build some buzz for your Socktober celebrations.
Using these resources, you can reach out to parents and invite them to register their children, share some snaps on the socials, and stop the presses with a Socktober scoop.
Five simple steps that can make Socktober even easier and way more fun!
1. Strength in numbers!
Reach out to parents today and invite them to register their kids for Socktober. It's safe, secure and takes a few minutes. A template email can be found above.
2. Recruit your colleagues...
Teamwork makes the dream work! Let your colleagues spread the word in class and generate some buzz in your school around making a difference for children in need.
3. Connect your community...
Invite your parent community to get involved in your Socktober Event Day at school or in students' at-home activities. Connect with local sports teams, businesses and identities to add some pizazz to your Socktober celebrations.
4. Alert the press...
Local media love a good news story that is local and involves action. Socktober ticks every box! You don't need to be a seasoned PR wiz to get a good story out. Just contact a local outlet or journalist, let them know what's going on at your school (a picture always helps!) and invite them to learn more.
5. Use the power of social media...
So many schools are gurus of social, with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram becoming a colourful patchwork of playground and classroom activity. Share your Socktober successes on your school's account and join the nationwide conversation by using the hashtags #Socktober2023 and #Socktober4Mission
Send a Socktober scoop!
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. (Mark 16:15)
Socktober is a celebration meant to be shared, and in every community across Australia there's at least one media outlet ready to publish your school's Socktober successes.
Local media outlets are always on the lookout for good news stories happening in their community, and a school taking action for children in need ticks all the boxes. Send an email with a pic to a local journalist, or use our media release template to alert them about your Socktober plans.
Remember, there's also local radio stations, who might be able to visit your school on the day or interview some students about their Socktober experience. In some places, even the local TV station might feature your school - it's all in how compelling you can make your story!

We have a bank of beautiful photos from our focus projects in Timor-Leste, the Maria Auxiliadora Clinic and the Don Bosco Children's Home, both in Venilale (plus plenty more from projects all around the world!)
These illustrate impact and give faces to the names of the people we are supporting.
